The Deep River Horseshoe League is in full swing after Week 3 action took place on July 2. The Pirates maintained their spot in first place thanks to consistent performances from all of their players on the week. Kris Toohey of Westbrook posted a series score of 130 in the A Division, while Division C player Karen Perna from Chester recorded a series of 87. The Pirates took just one loss in their six matchups to increase their lead atop the standings to two games.
Mark Goodale, a Division A player on the Royals, led all players in the league with a high series of 164. Goodale has yet to turn in series under 160 so far this season. Toohey's mark of 130 was second among Division A players. Haddam's Mike Zanelli, Sr., of the Dodgers scored a series of 124.
Leading the B Division was the Yankees' Ted Dubay, who lives in Colchester, with a series of 114. Deep River resident Sheryl Serviss, who plays for the White Sox, notched a series of 113. The Rangers' Andy Perna, a Chester resident, scored a series high of 106.
Deep River's Scott Allen, Jr., who plays for the Cubs, led all Division C Players with series score of 109, while Perna's tally of 87 placed her second in the division. Guilford's Mike Beckwith of the Tigers was third-best among Division C competitors with a series high of 80.
The standings after Week 3 show the Pirates leading the way with their record of 16-2. The Tigers are two games behind at 14-4, and the Rangers went 6-0 on the week to move into third place overall with a mark of 11.5-6.5. The Royals are in fourth place at 11-7, the Cubs and Giants are tied for fifth place at 10.5-7.5, and the Mets and Orioles are tied for seventh place with their records of 9-9.
The rest of the standings are as follows: Red Sox (8.5-9.5), White Sox (8-10), Cardinals (7.5-10.5), Yankees (7.5-10.5), Braves (7-11), Reds (5-13), Dodgers (5-13), and Angels (4-14).
