The Second Annual Disc Golf Tournament was sold out and took place at the  Rick B. Maynard Disc Golf Course, Bittner Park, Guilford. With proceeds to benefit the Guilford Meals on Wheels.   A Clinic taught by Innova Champion Discs Ambassador Craig Smolin, took place before the start of the tournament. Craig Smolin demonstrats how he holds the disc to Al Honer.

On Saturday, September 26, 2020 the 2nd Annual Ethan Song Gun Safe and Buyback Day took place at the Guilford Police Department, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This was a cooperative effort supported by the Ethan Miller Strong Foundation (Song Strong) and the Swords to Plowshares Northeast as well as the Guilford Police Department.  This year according to the Guilford Police Department, 198 firearms were turned in, including 21 BB/pellet guns, 3 Derringer type, 90 handguns, 79 riffles and 5 assault weapons.  Twelve gun safes and 22 trigger locks were also distributed. Lisa Freund handed Mike and Kristin Song a form with the amount of money that was needed to be  distributed  for the buyback as the drivers pulled up.

Dennis Johnson, Director of Health for the Town of Guilford had a surprise multi vehicle parade outside of his Health Department office at Town Hall South Friday afternoon.   Dennis Johnson will be retiring after 20 years of service to the Town of Guilford. First Selectman Matt Hoey, Darka Lindgren, Administrative Assistant, and Dennis's wife Sharon react to Dennis's hands in the air as the Guilford Police sirens  blare.

Volunteer with All The KingþÄôs Horses Equine Rescue, Amanda Hughart was teaching Abigail Scott horsemanship lessons at 1250 Long Hill Road, Guilford, part of a six week course. Abigail Scott lead Bugsy, who was an Amish Carting Horse, cheaning the horses shoes, brushing, and walking the horse.

The Dudley Farm FarmersþÄô Market was a bit more spread out this year with vendors set with a bit of space between them, allowing for visitors a safe distance to shop for honey, handmade crafts, jewelry, breads flowers, plants, vegetables  The Summer Market is open Saturdays 9am to 12:30pm and closes Oct. 31st at Dudley Farm, Guilford.

A Special Farewell for Retiring Guilford Teacher

A peaceful demonstration took place on Sunday on the Guilford Green, with people standing along the green holding signs to express solidarity with the Black community and support a discourse about racial oppression, systemic racial injustice and police brutality after the death of George Floyd.  The group was hoping to raise money to help fight this injustice with links to donate to NAACP, Black Lives Matter, Connecticut Bail Fund, Communities United Against Police Brutality and Minnesota Freedom Fund. Demonstrators hold up signs and get some support from a biker riding by.

The Town of Guilford, set up a mask distribution site at the Guilford High School on Tuesday April 28th at 10am with volunteers handing out pre packaged masks in envelopes containing 2 or 5 masks to a steady stream of  people driving through. Guilford Lakes Elementary SchoolþÄôs 4th grade teacher Kevin Flanagan got a surprise drive by from his students on Wednesday morning. The cars moved slowly by as the kids cheered and waved signs that they made to show how much they appreciate him. The Guilford Art Center hosted a Liquid Art: Cocktail and Gallery Party at the Art Center on Friday, March 6, 2020. The event featured tastings of creative craft beverages from some of ConnecticutþÄôs newest breweries, cideries, and distilleries. There was also the Art CenterþÄôs Student Art Exhibition on display, live music by the Wiley Bartels Trio, a silent auction, and food. Proceeds went to the Guilford Art CenterþÄôs educational and community programs which also includes their scholarship fund.
