H-K’s Soccer Squads Finish Regular Season Strong

Girls’ Soccer

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ soccer team finished the regular season at 6-2-1 after coming away from the final week with a win, a loss, and a draw.

H-K took a 2-1 home loss to Valley Regional on Nov. 2. Senior Morgan Madore scored the Cougars’ goal on an assist from sophomore Maggie Singer.

The following day, H-K hit the road to face Cromwell and battled the Panthers to a 1-1 tie. With H-K trailing 1-0, senior Kedarjah Lewis scored from Madore to tie the game during the second half. Junior Brianna Nugent made seven saves in net for the Cougars.

Then on Nov. 7, H-K hosted East Hampton for its regular-season finale and edged out the Bellringers by a 4-3 score. Lewis scored two goals for H-K during the opening half of the game. Lewis’s first goal came on an assist from Madore, who later assisted a goal by Lewis in the second half. Lewis also had the assist on H-K’s fourth and final goal when freshman Rory Parri found the back of the net for the game-winner later in the half. Junior Sophia Torello made five saves to get the win in goal.

Boys’ Soccer

The Cougars’ boys’ soccer team gained a split of two games during the last week of the 2020 regular season. H-K posted an overall record of 5-3-2 in regular-season play this fall.

H-K started off last week by dropping a 2-0 decision against Valley Regional in a road game on Nov. 3.

Then on Nov. 7, the Cougars hosted Hale-Ray for their regular-season finale and prevailed by a 4-0 score. Junior captain Ben Williams scored two goals for H-K, while Cole Merriam and Ryan Mucciacciaro both scored one. Senior Tim Carter had three assists in the win.

Field Hockey

The H-K field hockey team lost its last two games of the regular season to finish with a record of 0-8.

On Nov. 2, the Cougars took a 5-0 road loss against North Branford. Two days later, H-K hosted Old Saybrook and lost to the Rams by a 6-1 score.
