Police Incident Report for June 20 to July 10


The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Essex, Deep River, and Chester. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

Essex

Wednesday, June 20 to Thursday, June 28

No arrests were made.

Friday, June 29

• A 70 year-old man of Main Street in Ivoryton was arrested at 11:32 a.m. on a warrant charging him with larceny in the first degree. He was processed on a $100,000 surety bond.

Saturday, June 30 to Friday, July 6

No arrests were made.

Saturday, July 7

No arrests were made.

• A 67 year-old woman of Greene, Rhode Island was issued a written warning at 3:17 p.m. for making an improper turn. She was operating a 2011 Hyundai Sonata on Deep River Road into a parking lot on the opposite side of the street from where she was standing idle when she struck the right side of a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by a 45 year-old Old Saybrook man. No injuries were reported by either operator or observed by the investigating trooper.

Sunday, July 8

No arrests were made.

Monday, July 9

• A 38 year-old man of Hickory Hill Road in Chester was arrested at 8:11 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and traveling too fast for conditions following a motor vehicle crash. He was operating a gray 2001 BMW 540i when he exited the roadway and struck a wire-rope guardrail. He consented to and failed a standardized field sobriety test. No injuries were reported by the driver or observed by the investigating trooper.

Deep River

Wednesday, June 20 to Thursday, June 21

• A 21 year-old Clinton woman was issued a citation at 10:59 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart. She was operating a 2004 Nissan Sentra eastbound on Route 80 just prior to Union Street when she struck the rear of a 2014 Toyota Highlander operated by a 31 year-old woman of Cedar Swamp Road. Neither operator reported any injuries and the investing trooper observed no injuries.

Saturday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 27

No arrests were made.

Thursday, June 28

• A 28 year-old man of Main Street was arrested at 1:05 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan northbound on Prospect Street. He drifted to the right and struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle on the side of the road. No injuries were reported by the operator or observed by the investigating trooper.

Friday, June 29 to Monday, July 2

No arrests were made.

Tuesday, July 3

• A 44 year-old man of Main Street was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree.

Wednesday, July 4 to Tuesday, June 10

Chester

Wednesday, June 20

• A 52 year-old man of Bokum Road was issued a citation at 11:27 p.m. for unsafe backing. He was operating a 2009 Dodge Charger when he backed into a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sahara that was parked on Main Street and unoccupied. No injuries were reported.

Friday, June 22 to Wednesday, June 27

No arrests were made.

Thursday, June 28

No arrests were made.

• A 54 year-old Westbrook woman was issued a warning at 7:36 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. She was operating a 2012 Nissan Altima when she lost control of the vehicle in wet conditions and struck a guardrail. Visibility was poor due to heavy rain. The operator suffered minor injuries.

Saturday, June 30

No arrests were made.

• A 17 year-old Haddam boy was issued a citation at 1:58 a.m. for failure to maintain a reasonable distance apart and unsafe passing. The reports states he was operating a 2003 Toyota Highlander Limited continually too close to a 1997 Toyota Avalon, looking for a chance to pass. The Avalon was operated by a 22 year-old Chester woman. When he attempted to pass on the right, he caused the Chester woman to spin the Avalon out of control and strike a wire-rope guardrail. Both operators and their passengers were treated at the scene, but refused medical transport. The Highlander was driven from the scene. The Avalon was towed.

Tuesday, July 3

No arrests were made.

• A 57 year-old Deep River man was issued a citation at 4:28 p.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Railroad Avenue then he crossed the double yellow line and crashed into a stone wall located off the westbound shoulder, in front of #43. No injuries were reported by the driver or observed by the investigating trooper. The vehicle was towed.

Wednesday, July 4 to Saturday, July 7

No arrests were made.

Sunday, July 8

No arrests were made.

• A two-vehicle crash in which one driver fled the scene was investigated on Middlesex Turnpike (Route 154) near the Chester Fairgrounds at 9:14 a.m. An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 154 when it drifted into the northbound lane and struck the driver’s side mirror of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 owned by a 75 year-old man of Goose Hill Road in Chester. The at-fault operator fled the scene and could not be located. No injuries were reported by the operator of the Silverado or observed by the investigating trooper.

Tuesday, June 10

• A 21 year-old Wethersfield man was issued a citation at 6:42 a.m. for failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a 2014 Ford Focus when he dozed off, veered off the roadway, and struck a rock wall. The operator sustained a minor injury to his left arm.
