Voluntary Pay Program
Thank you for supporting Shore Publishing and participating in our annual Voluntary Pay Program!
This is an unusual request in an unusual time: We’re asking for money to produce something we give you for free.
We started our Voluntary Pay Program in 2015 as a way for readers to bolster our independent newsroom and also for our support in the community. In past years, we’ve provided sponsorships to more than 60 non-profit organizations ranging from The Shoreline Soup Kitchen & Pantries to Vista Life Innovations to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, as well as local Chambers of Commerce and much more.
That was our plan for 2020, as well, and we did continue to offer significant support to local non-profits. When the pandemic upended the business community in March, however, that reader support allowed us to something even more unusual: We offered free ad campaigns to distressed local businesses seeking ways to safely connect with customers. We were able to give that lifeline to more than 100 Main Street shops and services thanks to readers like you who supported us.
At a time when COVID has continued to hamper many local businesses—ours included—our Voluntary Pay Program has become more critical than ever. In response to the current downturn, we’ve made several changes: We’ve moved to remote operations, we’ve reduced expenses wherever possible, and most difficult, we’ve eliminated the jobs of some respected colleagues. What we haven’t done is reduce the reporting on local issues that you won’t find anywhere else.
We value you as a reader and it’s our privilege and mission to continue providing local news, ads, and information through your free weekly paper and our free website Zip06.com—whether or not you take part in our Voluntary Pay Program. If, however, you are in a place where you’re able to make a contribution to us, you will be supporting quality community journalism and a local company that’s in the business of helping other local businesses at a time when it’s most needed.
All contributions of $50 or more will receive a gift of the pictured reusable tote bag!
